Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering programme is designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in the field of mechanical engineering. It offers various technical fields that will provide a wider career opportunity to the students. In line with the National Education Philosophy, this programme aims to produce graduates who are knowledgeable and competent with strong understanding of contents in their respective fields. Students in this programme are exposed to practical training in machinery, soldering, computer programming, packaging, CNC and product testing. Students are also prepared for the challenging and competitive work environment by undergoing six months of industrial training. In pursuing academic excellence, the teaching and learning strategy applied in this programme includes a combination of theory and practice, case studies, group discussions, presentations and assignments.


Students are also assigned group projects as an initiative to nurture creativity and teamwork among them. This programme is tailored to meet the industry requirement for assistant engineers and technicians, with the opportunity to continue to the degree programme in both local and international universities upon completion.

  • Obtained at least 5 Credits in O Levels or Senior High School Certificate/Senior Secondary School/other equivalent pre-university examination from the government school (with the period of at least 12 years of study from primary to higher secondary) in any Science Subject (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Science & Technology or General Science); AND

  • Obtained at least credits (Grade C) in any Mathematics (Maths or Ad Maths); OR

  • Recognised Certificate in Engineering/Engineering Technology or its equivalent; OR

  • Recognised related Vocational and Technical/Skills Certificate or its equivalent with ONE (1) year of relevant work experience or a minimum of ONE (1) semester of a bridging programme; OR

  • Any other certificate that is recognized by Polytechnic’s equivalent to the above; AND

  • 3 Credits in O Levels with a Credit in any Mathematics (Maths or Ad Maths) and a PASS in any Science Subject (Chemistry, Physics, Biology or General Science); or

  • Obtained at least a pass in English Language; OR

  • Certified copies of English Language Proficiency Certificate (IELTS/TOEFL); AND

  • Candidates must not be colour blind and physically handicapped which will complicate practical works.

  • –A qualification that PSA accepts as equivalent to the above
